Carla Nelms, a Richmond-based photographer

About the photographer

My passion is photographing children and their families. To me, photography is the most satisfying art form, combining visual form and elegance with the emotional appeal and beauty of children. My home is decorated with fine portraiture of my three children, and I can’t think of a better decorative focal point than art combining beauty and love.

Creativity, experience, style and passion are qualities you should look for in the artist who will tell your story. Do not think that anyone with a nice camera can create art. To be a great photographer, you have to master hundreds of talents: knowing how to use natural and man-made lighting to sculpt a subject; knowing how to position a subject to flatter their shape; understanding a myriad of combinations of choices in lenses, and settings to create a unique view; using retouching art to make each person look their best; and creating fine prints to name a few. I learn new techniques every day to keep up with the ever changing world of photography in order to bring the finest images to my clients.

Fine photography is a wonderful investment in love and memories and is always an exciting conversation piece for your home. I am so excited to share the journey of creation with you.
